Now, I bring you Aberlady. Another Starmore, from her book The Celtic Collection.
As you can see, this pattern is amazing only because it is like knitted in size 0 needles! Tight, tight stitches to pop out the Celtic arrows.
So, once again, I look in my stash, the same very stash I acquired when I was a little boy, not knowing much about yarn and all and found Elsebeth Lavold Hempathy. This is my Aberlady swatch, knitted in size 4 US (3.5 mm), 2 (2.75 mm) and 0 US (2.0 mm).

This swatch has been washed and dried and actually, my little boy purchase might actually work, but I just don't know if I have enough yarn! Arrgh, it's always something or another.
So, based on the swatch, I think that the pattern can be seen clearest using the size 0, but I think it's the size 2 that might work. The only reason I say this is because though size 0 is very tight and pretty, it is also very stiff. What do you all think?
Hempathy is a strange yarn. Well, maybe not so strange, but just my inexperience knitting with Hemp. But it does seem to soften up a lot after washing.
Then not only am I itching about starting a new project, but my pocketbook was also itching. I thought, "How nice would it be if I got some nice yarn to make a sinple sweater for myself. Say a 2x2 rib?" That would be something I would wear more than a Starmore. A Starmore would be for my knitting pleasure but a simple ribbed sweater would be for practicality. So here you go, 17 balls of Classic Elite Wool Bam Boo.

Well, so there you go folks, itching, obsessed and now broke......

I just made a small project with the Wool Bam Boo! It's a great yarn. (A little splitty, but very soft.)
Well, with your gauge swatch . . . I would probably try swatching on size one. The 0 definitely pops better, but if it is too stiff, I would try a one. But that's a lot of swatching too.
I LOVE knitting on small needles, probably because I make so many socks.
I also find bamboo to be splitty. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
I think your instinct to use 2 is probably best. The popping stitches with 0 are nice, but you'd never want to wear a stiff sweater. Nice color, too!
hemp, like flax/linen, will soften after each wash. i'd go with the size #2 US needle. knowing YOU, you will hate using the size 0 or even 1, knitting a sweater. okay for socks... and yes, bamboo is very splitty, at least the couple i've tried.
At least you're not itching from a fiber allergy!
Definitely the 2s. Your hands and wrists will thank you for it. (I actually get all itchy thinking about knitting an entire sweater even on size 2s, but if it appeals to you, go for it!)
oh boy, you have got some fantastic projects on your blog... thank you for letting the world enjoy it..
all the best from Switzerland.. Chrissy
I'm knitting a top from Hempathy right now on size 4s. I can't imagine knitting it on 0s. I love tiny needles, but I think Hempathy on 0s would kill me!
You're too cute Kenny. I just finished making the "ruffles" scarf on the front of D Bliss mag in wool/bamboo and LOVE that yarn. I like the drape of it too. Wish I had more of it in my stash. ENJOY making a practical sweater for yourself.
Can totally relate to your comment about being a little boy and just buying away without knowing what I was doing!
